DEI Statement

DEI lies at the heart of Livable Wage Job’s (LWJ) purpose, stemming from the core belief that no single curriculum, timeline, or evaluation method exists that supports all learner needs and expectations. LWJ co-creates learner and educator access to pathways through multiple entry points rather than conforming to standard curriculum and assessment.

Diversity is edge first

At LWJ, DEI means recognizing that everyone walks into learning from a different family, life stage, and community context. Learners come to LWJ with experiences and families where they encounter successes, challenges, and crises in their relationships and access to food, transportation, employment, fair wages, or mental health support.

Livable wage jobs are a human right

Equity in livable wage jobs supports collaborative interpretation, understanding, and appropriation of practical, relevant, and adaptable learning and earning pathways.

Equity is relational – self and other

LWJ’s participatory approach supports educators and learners at all points on their learning or earning pathways. We offer beauty in the learning journey. We support exploratory work-based learning experiences that build learner confidence in sector specific skill sets.

Respectful, inclusive & open by design

We employ respectful and inclusive design practices, co-creating our curricula with local employers, teachers, students, and learners. We actively seek diverse representation across our teams, including multiple socio-cultural, neuro-diverse, and low-wage economy contributors. We offer multiple entry points and exit strategies in our learning pathways. All content is open-source, open education resource (OER), and meets accessibility compliance (WCAG/508/WAI) to minimize barriers to access. Finally, from a targeting perspective, we are outside-in, starting with edge learners to co-create exceptional learning experiences.
