Our mission is to make equitable life’s work practical and possible for all by co-creating innovative, inclusive learning, work-based learning, upskilling, and reskilling programs and apprenticeships that prepare people for livable-wage employment. With deep respect for youth and individuals experiencing disabilities, justice system involvement, or other social and economic challenges, we design opportunities that expand opportunity and dignity. We advance this work by developing and publishing open-source tools and work-based learning resources, partnering with apprentice-focused agencies. Guided by transparency, stewardship, and accountability, we ensure that every solution we create is relevant, accessible, and impactful for edge communities.
Apprenticeships
Livable Wage Jobs’ technology apprenticeships prepare talent to work with current and emerging technologies at innovative, livable-wage organizations. These apprenticeships emphasize real-world tools and practices. Apprentices learn by doing: contributing to production projects and using collaborative platforms, version control, and modern tech stacks in partnership with community organizations and companies. Each apprenticeship integrates work-based learning, coaching, and accessible, open-source resources so participants build a portfolio of demonstrated skills. The goal is for apprentices to become competitive applicants, participate in on-the-job training with one or more employers, and transition into stable, livable-wage technology careers
Work-based Learning
Livable Wage Jobs’ Work-Based Learning creates and shares high-quality, Creative Commons licensed (CC BY 4.0) learning experiences that support people to prepare for livable wage careers. We design practical, project-based WBL activities that can be used by educators, workforce programs, learners, and employers without licensing fees or proprietary barriers. Our content focuses on real workplace tasks, professional skills, and current tools, and is adaptable across settings and learner needs. We also develop specialized materials for apprentices in specific occupations, aligning learning with day-to-day job expectations and career advancement opportunities. By making this content open, actionable, and easy to implement, the Work-Based Learning Publisher supports communities, organizations, and apprentices in transitioning to meaningful, work-connected learning at scale.
